Question:Asalamualaikum wrwb Maulana I was wondering since my idea for a barber shop would allow us by law to specify what types of services we offer (i.e no shaving or hair line designs) that perhaps it would be permissible? Perhaps we can make a list of illustrations which show permissible cuts?

Regarding your query, it will be permissible to list the various haircuts and services offered in your barbershop. However, it must be kept in mind that only the hair will be permitted to illustrate and not the face (even if the eyes, etc. are removed). Drawing pictures of animate objects such as humans or animals is not permitted in Islam. Merely erasing the eyes will not remove the prohibition, as life can still exist without eyes. Drawing without the head of an animate object or any inanimate object is permitted in Islam. Therefore, as mentioned above, showing just the hair as an illustration will be permissible, without any faces (even if the eyes, etc. are removed).1
